Well, you know how I feel about mommies who let their kids wander aimlessly without guidance…BIG pet peeve of mine. But who am I to judge, right? Our teacher from our mommy and me class invited her 2 classes over to her house for a pool party. Inviting 50 2-3 year olds…I would NEVER. There were 5 fathers present and they were immediately designated lifeguards…my husband included. 2 rambunctious 3 year old kids (NO swimgear on)+ mothers chit chatting away, nowhere near their kids = BIG TROUBLE! And that’s exactly what happened. 1 kid went under in the jacuzzi! We don’t know now long he was struggling but I saw him and immediately yelled for help. My husband jumped in. It was the saddest sight. And although he was not mine, I was shook up by the sight. That event scared the mommy straight, so to speak, and she never left his side for the rest of the afternoon. ugh…did it really have to take that incident for the mom to keep her eye on her kid?

Anyways, on a happier note. I am nearly done with my pouches.

renegade pouches 005please excuse the wrinkles. ironing is scheduled for some time next week :)

These are one of a kind…did not have the energy or time to make double of these.

I am off to start on my tissue cozies and paperweights!

my all time fav nursery song! Yes, despite my dislike of most creatures with feathers, I still include them in my craft projects! I suppose they can be cute…as long as they are nowhere near me.

renegade pouches

Lovin anything I can applique to my pouches! The lil ducks/chicks are made out of felt and the details are embroidered.

I hope to be motivated enough to take pictures of some big sis dolls soon. They are a cute batch, if I do say so myself. I have just been so busy with my list of things to do that unfortunately, once a doll is completed, she is put away. Not much to report…just busy sewing away :)

big sis

busy, busy, busy = disheveled me.

despite staying up until 1am almost daily and sewing, cutting, ironing with no end in sight, i have managed to keep it all together :) meaning, take care of my twins, go to summer school with them, take them out on outings, eat lunch with lil sis and Lila, hit the gym in the evening, and spend whatever time i have left with my husband (poor guy).  my calendar tells me i have very little time left before the big fiesta but fortunately (for everybody), i am on track.

I thought I would escape that feeling of having a sore butt from sitting all day.  I used to have an office job sitting in front of a computer all day.  Now that I’ve dedicated my afternoons and evenings to sewing, I’m reminded of that feeling once again!

Oh well for now!  Here is my first batch of four square bags…off to make some linen ones :)

Yay ~ the baby shower was a success!  The baby mama had a great time, and that’s all I was hoping for.

Now on to the pics…

I made different shades of pink and green tissue pom-poms.  Tutorial can be found here on Martha Stewart’s site.  They even sell MS pom-pom kits at Wal-Mart and other selective stores, but they usually only come in certain colors.

Emily Sign – made out of cardstock and plain white computer paper.  I used Century Schoolbook font in like a 600 font size!  The pinwheel looking things are called paper rosettes, and you can find the tutorial here on the Paper Source website.  IMG_2564emily

Diaper cake -

Flower Centerpiece -  I absolutely love peonies!  I was so happy to see that Trader Joe’s sold them!  I mixed peonies with a bunch of white/green flowers.  I wish I took a picture of them before they bloomed because they looked like ugly white balls, and after two days, they opened up to these beautiful butterfly looking flowers!

Baby Mobile – made this out of patterned cardstock, clear wire, glue, circle cutter, and the wooden circle that is holding everything together is an embroidery hoop.  This was very inexpensive to make; it just took some time.  The wire cost me $.99 at Wal-Mart, and the embroidery hoop was $1.79.  I wanted to incorporate the elephants from the invitation, so I drew a bigger version of the elephant and used that as my template.  If you don’t have a circle cutter, just draw one by free hand and use that as your template to cut others.  The possibilities are endless!

Food – assorted mini sandwiches, smoked salmon on crackers, green salad, fruit salad, pita chips/hummus, veggie dip,  cheese and crackers, mini cupcakes, and Izze drinks.  My girlfriend made cute pink and green signs for the food and stuck them on bamboo skewers.  I don’t have a picture of the favors, but we made chocolate dipped strawberries and wrapped them up in cellophane.

Fruit salad in a baby carriage – I cut out the watermelon the morning of because of the lack of fridge space, but I heard you could do this the night before.  The how-to can be found here.  This was a hit!  Great conversation piece :)

IMG_2537fruit saladOne of the games we played was the “Match as many pairs of baby socks”, and it was SO MUCH FUN!  If you need a good ice-breaker game, I highly recommend this one!  We could not stop laughing watching each person fumble with these tiny socks.  The mommy to be actually won this game with the grand total of 15 matched socks at 40 seconds.

All you need is 25 pairs of baby socks (or less and just shorten the amount of time), a stopwatch, a basket to mix the socks, and a pair of adult socks.  Ask the mommy to be to fold the pair of adult socks as she would with her own laundry because I realized after seeing my roommates in college that there are many variations of folding socks!  Each person has 40 seconds (adjust the time according to the number of socks you have) to fold as many pairs of socks as possible according to the way the mommy to be folds her socks.  Let the fun begin!

Of course, I had to make the mommy a lilsprinkles doll.

Yikes…I gotta get to crafting now!  The Renegade is less than a month away.  June is really kicking my butt right now!!

More baby shower ideas can be found here. and here.

Nothing much going on but this…

Here’s to hoping that I can join them in never never land REAL SOON!

Husband went on a quick business trip. It’s a love-hate thing I have with my husband’s job. His job requires him to travel at least 2 times a month, sometimes even more. When I wasn’t crafting (when my twins were infants), it was stressful to not have him around. Granted, he couldn’t do much b/c he was at work but the idea that IF I needed him, he COULD be there (yes, even if it was an hour and a half later). Now that lil sis and I have the shop, I sometimes welcome his leave! :) It’s not like he gets in my way but I like the peacefulness of my house in the evening…when the kids have gone to bed, the dishes have been done, everything has been prepped for the next day, and I can do whatever I need to do in peace and quiet. Plus, I don’t have to share the TV or the computer!

So last night was one of those nights. Me in my new space with crap everywhere that you could barely see the floor. It was a productive evening…that is, until I started watching “I’m a celebrity, get me out of here”. ugh! stupid! but in my defense there was nothing on TV!

Here’s one of the girls I finished up.

Happy Wednesday!

I love leis. They are just so pretty and I especially love the big puffy ones…you know which ones I’m talking about? is it the carnation ones? Anyways, our last mommy-and-me class is tomorrow (I signed the kids up for summer school so we will be continuing for another month!) and the day will be spent celebrating all the lovely things of Hawaii! We have a potluck scheduled…of course, food would be involved when you get a group of stay at home moms/dads involved! I decided to make the kids’ teacher a lei. a pretty ribbon lei that is almost as fluffy as the “real” thing!

These are so easy to make. I’m making a few for my lil dollies so hopefully I can include a tutorial on them soon.

Happy Tuesday!

This weekend was jam packed! My single friends took me out for my birthday and I’m glad to say that I can still party on! My husband was sweet enough to “let me out”…yeah, right! No, but he was sweet enough to not say much despite me coming home at 4 in the morning. Our night began at The Bizaar. I must admit, I get pretty stressed when it comes to going to these places. What is a stay-at-home mom who lives in the suburbs suppose to wear??? :)

This was probably one of the best places to have tapas. I’ve been to some of the other trendy tapas places but this one…after each dish, we were ooh-ing and aah-ing AND yum-ing! Unfortunately, although I did bring my camera, it was way too dark and too “Hollywood” for me to bust out my camera and start taking pictures of the dishes. Afterall, I didn’t want to stick out like a sore thumb…didn’t want to be the one who never goes out so when she does, she has to take pictures of EVERYTHING in sight. but PLEASE visit their bathroom. Even I would eat off their floors. Immaculate! little things that I so very much appreciate!

What we did afterwards will remain a secret (if you know me, then you know where I went!) but the night ended at El Taurino. Tell me…why is it that this restaurant is so packed at 3 in the morning!?!? I often dream of you, al pastor! perhaps, the others do too!

Husband and I celebrated at Lawry’s yesterday evening. It NEVER gets old, not for a carnivore like myself. And my wish was finally granted! We spent  this morning rearranging our office and I NOW have my very own space. Hmm…after all of that, I wonder how much time I will actually spend crafting in this “new” space of mine. Shh…don’t tell my husband.

This weekend was full of wonderful food and company. Wish every weekend could be like this :) Never mind, I would have to hit the gym EVERY NIGHT. And even though I can party like I did in the 20s I am the first to admit that the recovery time is MUCH longer. I still feel so pooped and drained. Need to get it together…Renegade is almost a month away and I have still so much to do.

big sis

but in a not-so-scary…in a very cute way…if possible. Geez, maybe I shouldn’t have used that title.

I’m so close to the finish line. I can see it but only from a distance…a FAR distance. remember, I have 20/20! SO CLOSE but so far. All right, enough; you get the picture. I spent yesterday afternoon painting and this is what we all looked like.

renegade dolls 004

well…minus me b/c as you can see, there was no room for me to lay down with them! I just have to get them fitted for shoes and accessories. sigh. the tough part.

renegade dolls 005.jpg rs

They are all waiting their turn. Even this sight gives me the heebie jeebies. I started thinking…”what if my house floods? then all my hard work will go down the drain”. I know, get a hold of yourself! For now, this will be their resting spot.

I’m moving on to another project. for now.

The twins and I will be attending our final class at the library. There is no denying it, our library has to be one of the most beautiful libraries of them all! granted, I have not been to too many :) It is bittersweet. We have been with this librarian (aka as “teacher” to the kids) for the past 2 years and it was our first mommy-and-me class. I’m already getting all sappy about these classes coming to an end and they are my kids’ classes! What will happen when my twins started Kinder?
